Title: teacup
Grade Level: Elementary
Short Answer:
I would show my students a similar cup and explain how it came from England and the cost to make it. Then I would add the taxes and cost to ship it. I would ask them to choose sides if it was fair to expect colonists to pay the extra money and not the people in England. Then we would look up how much it would have cost to buy it if it was made locally and compare the totals. I'd then have them decide if they still thought it was fair. I would tell them England made it difficult for Americans to make their own - so they had to purchase from England.
This could be a good way for them to understand why England didn't want to give up America as a colony.
